Getting your NDIS plan approved is an important milestone. The next step is understanding what it says and putting it to work towards your goals.
Go through your plan with someone you trust. It sets out your goals, funded supports, budget and the dates it covers. If something looks wrong or is missing, raise it with the NDIS promptly.
Our page on ways to manage funding explains the differences.
Ask providers about their experience, availability and how they will support your goals. A service agreement usually records what support is delivered, when, how it is paid for and how changes are made. Read it before signing and keep a copy.
Some people with disability use acupuncture or Chinese herbal medicine alongside their plan. These therapies may help some people with pain, muscle tension, sleep and stress, but they work alongside your GP and treating team, never instead of them. They are generally not funded by the NDIS, so ask your plan manager or support coordinator; otherwise they may be paid privately or through private health insurance extras. See an AHPRA-registered Chinese medicine practitioner, tell your GP and pharmacist about any herbs because they can interact with medicines, and take extra care in pregnancy. Homeland Care does not provide these treatments.
